Framing Air Nailer Guide

Framing air nailers are perfect for wall and floor framing, window build up, modular and mobile home housing construction, and wall sheating, among other major construction projects. But buying the perfect brand and type is extremely confusing and difficult since there are varieties of framing air nailers available both online and in your local department store. Here’s a comprehensive checklist of accessories, parts, and other tips that you need to know about using for framing air nailers.

Shopping for Framing Air Nailer and Accessories

Check all parts, especially when re-conditioned. If you are buying re-conditioned or pre-owned framing air nailers, you need to check if the machine works accordingly. Check the air plug, piston, push lever, trigger, and the stop lever if working properly; these are just some parts that could easily wear through time.

All recommended accessories should be included. Check the kit if it includes the mandatory or standard accessories for framing air nailers: an eye protector (American National Standards Institute-passed) and Allen wrench for M5, M8, and M6 screws.

Purchase optional accessories. For proper maintenance and care, you are also recommended to purchase a pneumatic tool lubricant kit that includes a 1 quart can, 4-oz. oil feeder, and 0.8-oz. oil feeder.

Tips for Using Framing Air Nailers

Power source. Only use dry, clean, and regulated air as your main power source for the nailer. If you don’t have an air compressor ready at your work area, make sure that you would only purchase a compressor that had complied with the latest version of the Safety Standard for Compressors for Process Industries; check for the ANSI Standard-approved seal. Daily drain any water that had dropped or accumulated in the tool; moisture and even oil could accelerate corrosion and wear in the nailer.

Filter-Regulator-Lubricator. Only use a regulator that allows a pressure range of up to 120 psi. Use a filter-regulator-lubricator that is in tip top shape for an optimum use of the nailer and even an extended use. Always use filter-regulator-lubricator when framing air nailers are in use. Here’s an overview of how these parts are used to care for your nailer:

- Filter removes the dirt and moisture that accumulates with the use of compressed air. Immediately drain content after use. - Regulator basically controls the amount of pressure that goes in the nailer. Before use and firing, always check the regulator to see if it’s functioning properly. - Lubricator supplies the needed amount of moist by the nailer. Check the lubricator before using the nailer to make sure that the amount of lubricant supply is adequate.

Air hose. Check if the air hose could handle at least 150 psi, the minimum working pressure needed for the system to function properly.

House coupling. Check for both female and male coupler if working properly. To install the house coupler, remove the dust cap from the air inlet and place the male plug. Then, simply install the female coupler on the air house. Buying tip for house coupler: always make sure that you are buying only those that labeled as relieving couplers, as there are non-relieving varieties available in local hardware stores.
